Tamarama High Rise Apartment

Sydney’s iconic Tamarama is stunning, but it proved to be a challenging site for fitting out a new water-view apartment. A partial renovation of an old apartment block meant working with a retained wall of old bricks.

Logistically, the site posed multiple problems, as construction work was conducted simultaneously with fit-outs in multiple units. Parking on-site was virtually unavailable for deliveries, except for a brief half-hour window in the early morning. A narrow stairwell meant hiring a barrel lift, the use of which required removing the balcony railing to get materials into the apartment. Excellent project management was crucial to ensure the fit-out was completed on time.

The team showcased their skills in the beautiful, seamless walls and ceiling joins, with no architraves or cornices to hide behind. Old bricks in white set render met tiles and roofing in a straight line, creating a satisfyingly elegant look. Beautiful joinery, built in our factory and finished to the highest standard, is displayed throughout the unit – in the kitchen, bathroom vanities, and around the bed area. Especially notable is the perfectly executed datum line, created by the dark timber detailing around the television area, which aligns perfectly with the frame of the sliding doors to the outside terrace.

Overcoming several challenges, exceptional joinery skills, and a collaborative team effort resulted in a unit that will remain timeless and well-loved for many years.

This project was honoured with a Special Recognition Award at the Interior Fitout Association’s award ceremony in 2024.
